Dear Contestants,
We are sending you a few informations about the harp competition. The Organising Commitee decided to hold the opening ceremony as well as the entire contest at the Academy of Performing Arts – Faculty of Music and Dance (HAMU). Address – Malostranské náměstí (Lesser Town square) 13, Praha 1 – Malá Strana (The Lesser Town). The Opening Ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 19th at 5.30 p.m. at the „Respirium“, of the Academy of Performing Arts. The registration of contestants will start each day at 8 a.m. on the staircase in front of the Gallery when the whole competition will take place. There will be also classrooms available for warm up. Each contestant is required to register at least 30 minutes before the beginning of their category. Practicing on harp is possible in the Jan Hanus Music School: U Delnickeho cviciste 1/1100 B, Prague 6 – Brevnov (entrance from Meziskolska Street) on Friday January 20th and also on Saturday January 21st after previous booking send by email to address – bradova@zuspraha6.net – till January 6th. In case of larger interest, we will make a time practice list. The list of all contestnats you will find during several days on website of the competition. Diplomas and prizes, including special jury prizes, will be awarded to contestants in each category when the results are announced according to the competition schedule. The winners of each category as well as the owners of the jury’s special prizes will participate in the final Winners’ Concert on 22 January 2023 in Martinů Hall in the same building. This international competition is held every two years in Prague – Czech Republic.
Prof. Karel Patras was a noteworthy Czech harpist and teacher of the 20th century.
He studied the harp at the State Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. As a student of the conservatory, he was engaged in the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Patras’ career as a professor started in 1959 at the State Conservatory and later he became also a professor at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
The goal of the competition is to promote and popularize harp playing, support of mutual meeting and comparing players’ skills of young harpists.
Competition is designated as one-round, open to students under the age of 26 and of all grades of art schools.
